Tragic Update on Cargo Plane Incident: Death Toll Rises to 13

The number of fatalities from the transport jet which ignited and went down has now reached 13, per latest reports.

Mayor's Announcement

While en route to the Union’s vigil, I was informed of a 13th person that lost their life as a outcome of the aircraft crash,” expressed the municipal leader in a public communication. “My heart are with the relatives, associates and colleagues of all who were taken in this week’s disaster. We will endure this together.”

Victims Named

An announcement from UPS listed the flight crew operating the jet as Captain Richard Wartenberg, First Officer Lee Truitt, and Relief Captain Dana Diamond.

“Our sympathies go out to each UPSer who has been impacted and all in our community area – supporting you and guaranteeing you get the attention and assistance you need is our focus,” the firm’s statement stated.

Probe Findings

National officials revealed that the jet’s left wing caught fire and an engine detached soon after takeoff from the airfield, leading to the plane to plummet and explode into a fireball.

The safety agency announced it is examining the plane’s maintenance history, that was in the state for maintenance several weeks before the incident.

Flight tracking data showed the aircraft was on the tarmac in San Antonio, Texas from early September to last week.

“We are aware that this plane was present in the facility,” remarked an official on later, not giving a exact period. “We will examine each aspect of maintenance that was completed, including the Texas time, all the way to the time of the journey.”

Recovery of Critical Items

The cockpit voice recorder and flight data recorder were found, and the power plant was discovered on the airfield.

The recorders – known as flight recorders – were constructed to endure collision damage and extreme heat from fires, and they looked to be undamaged when found among the remains. Officials plan on examining data from the black boxes.

Aircraft’s concluding flight details showed an altitude of 475 ft and a speed of that speed ahead of the accident.

Repair Background

Based on aviation authority files from last month, a fissure on a part in the center wing fuel tank demanded repairs.

Singapore-based ST Engineering, which said it supplies aircraft servicing for UPS’s aircraft and operates a repair facility in San Antonio, declined to comment, but stated it would work closely when relevant authorities reached out it.

Activities Restart

In the meantime, the facility operations restarted Wednesday night with its Next Day Air also known as nighttime process, representative the company official confirmed. All three runways at Louisville Muhammad Ali international airport were likewise reopened.

The distribution hub in this location is the organization’s largest. The center employs in excess of a large number of individuals in the area, handles 300 aircraft per day and sorts more than a huge volume of items an hour.

Local Support

A memorial was held on the night of 6 November by the area labor union, which represents employees at the airfield, the company’s primary air cargo hub.

The union chapter, which supports employees, started the memorial with a quiet tribute at 5.14pm, the rough time of the crash before.

“This event was so sudden, so unforeseen,” the official addressed the crowd of two hundred. “No one had a chance to bid farewell to any of those who we have said farewell to.”
